D34 2018-2019 School Calendar Approved

At the January 23, 2018 Board of Education Meeting, the 2018-2019 Antioch District 34 School Calendar was approved.  This school calendar is a little different than our typical calendar.  The District will break ground this Spring for the additions and/or renovations to Antioch Elementary, W.C. Petty Elementary and Oakland Elementary.  As a result, we are needing to start next school year a little later and end the year a little sooner than normal.  In short, the school year is compressed and there are fewer days off during the holiday seasons.

The changes to the 2018-2019 calendar are necessary in order to provide ample time for construction to occur and to ensure the schools are ready to receive students in the fall.  This modified calendar is only planned for the 2018-2019 school year.

Families are encouraged to carefully review the 2018-2019 District Calendar for potential impacts to normal routines, vacation plans and other family engagements.  In order to respect any long-range vacation plans, students that are absent due to vacation plans over the “typical” Thanksgiving and/or Winter Break, will be counted as excused as long as families notify the school in advance.

The district is also in communication with Champions and other local providers to see if additional child care services could be offered due to the September 4, 2018 later-than-typical start date, and the tentative May 24, 2019 earlier-than-typical last day of school.  These potential child care providers may help bridge the gap for child care between a typical start/end calendar and the approved 2018-2019 calendar.

We are grateful to the Antioch community for their overwhelming support of the referendum and the inconveniences of construction over the next year and a half.  If you have any questions, please contact Kathy Hogan at 847-838-8481.
