During a Student Council meeting a few weeks ago, Antioch Upper Grade School 7th grader, Abigail Flade, brought up the issue that the Open Arms Mission in Antioch was in dangerous need of supplies due to COVID-19. She suggested that the Student Council should run a donation event. AUGS Student Council Presidents (Katie Heiden and Abigail Klimek), brought the motion up to a vote. The motion was passed unanimously. Abigail Flade immediately started organizing a group to run this donation event, and coming up with different ways to advertise this event. After a week of the Student Council members advertising the event on social media and by word of mouth, the event was finally arrived. Even though it was raining, that did not stop people from donating. The Student Council raised hundreds of dollars for the Open Arms Mission and collected five vans full of non-perishable food items and toiletries.
