D34 Wellness Policy
Antioch CCSD 34 is committed to supporting the whole child by promoting student wellness through healthy nutrition, physical activity, and positive school environments. Our district wellness policy guides efforts to ensure that students have access to nutritious meals, meaningful nutrition education, regular physical activity, and wellness-focused school practices that support learning and lifelong healthy habits.
The district promotes sound nutrition and physical activity as essential components of student success. Nutrition education is embedded within the comprehensive health curriculum, and physical education is provided at all grade levels through developmentally appropriate, standards-aligned instruction. Schools also encourage active lifestyles and healthy choices throughout the school day.
To support healthy eating environments, all meals served through the school breakfast and lunch programs meet federal nutrition standards. Foods and beverages sold during the school day comply with USDA Smart Snacks guidelines, and marketing of foods that do not meet these standards is prohibited. The district also supports a food-sharing plan to help reduce waste and address student need in partnership with local health authorities.
The wellness policy is reviewed and monitored regularly to ensure compliance and continuous improvement. Families, staff, students, and community members are encouraged to provide feedback and participate in the ongoing development and implementation of wellness initiatives. Through these collective efforts, D34 strives to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students.
