Mr. Jeff Wiktor

Welcome to 8th Grade Science,  Team SPARTANS!

The 2022-23 School year marks my fifth year at AUGS, but this is my 30th year of teaching 8th graders SCIENCE!

Here is some basic information regarding our class and some things you should be able to expect from your students:

CURRICULUM CONTENT

Two Types of Knowledge to be Gained:  Factual and Procedural

The Scientific Method and Practices (Writing Emphasis)

AMPLIFY:  Energy, Forces, Magnetism, Light, Moon, Sun, Earth, Natural Seletion and  Evolutionary History over Time

STUDENT SCIENCE BINDER

Students will be creating their own Portfolio of their writing, class information, and all their experiences in class. We call this our class Binder.  Binder Contains Daily Work, a Learning Log, Labs and Activities:  Observations, Data collection and Analysis, a Vocabulary List, Notes, and All written/engineering Assessments!  Binders are an organizational tool for your students and becomes their TEXTBOOK and STUDY GUIDE for all the material learned in class and from the ONLINE tool of AMPLIFY.

This is a great way to watch your student’s development and ability to meet standards in science!

GRADING

Point System:

All activities worth a number of points dependant on amount of work students are required to do or the demonstration of standards attainment.  All graded work will be incorporated into the three categories of grading all of AUGS will be using--20% Process, 40% Formative Tasks, 40% Summative Tasks.

Students also earn daily points for meeting school and learner expectations in class. (this is part of the process grades)

Work not turned in or missing will count as a zero until completed.

10% Scale for letter grades.

Powerschool is great way to see upcoming grades/tests/activities!
