Welcome to Second Grade!      Mrs. Menges

August 2020 - Hello, my name is Mrs. Michelle Menges, and this is my 32nd year of teaching at Oakland School. Of course, this year is quite different from most, during this pandemic. While we start off our year with Remote 2.0 Learning, I will do my best to make it as fun and engaging for your child as possible! Please be patient as I work out how to do this. I am always open to feedback!! I can't wait to meet all my new students and their families! I hope you will be able to attend our virtual meet and greet on Tuesday evening.

Our class this year will look much less like last spring's Remote Learning 1.0 (where students could log on at any time to do their pushed-out work), and much more like our regular school day. Your child will be expected to be "in attendance" from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM every day. Instruction will be live, via ZOOM, and at times your child may be working independently while I work with small groups - just like when we are in the building. I will be teaching live all day, with either the whole class or small groups, so will not be available for parent interaction until 2:30. There are no longer "optional" activities, as your child is expected to do all assigned work, including Specials. If your child is absent, please contact me on SeeSaw, and I will have make-up work ready for the next day, and go over it with your child at 2:30, so that it may be completed as homework after school that day. I do not plan to record our ZOOM meetings.

Please check out the "All About Mrs. Menges" link on the left to learn more about me.

My email address is mmenges@antioch34.com . Please feel free to contact me as needed through email or SeeSaw. All whole-class communication from me will be through the SeeSaw app (once families have had the opportunity to sign up), and through the occasional email as needed.

    Our Daily Schedule:

    • 8:30-9:00 Morning Meeting
    • 9:00-9:30 Science or Social Studies
    • 9:30-10:00 Special: M=Music, T=Music, W=STEM (PLTW), TH=Art, F=STEM

If children live with acceptance, they learn to love.

If children live with kindness and consideration, they learn respect.

If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live!
