• Hi Students this is Mr. Skoog. I am excited to share with you my final year of teaching.  Did you know that students that connect with their instructors on an appropriate personal level have a tendency to achieve more than those that do not engage or care? In other words, I want you to know that your feelings are important and YOU BELONG AT AUGS!  Studies show (2018 ASU) relationships between teachers and students should involve a well-balanced combination of respecttrust, and discipline. While teachers do not need to develop deep friendships with students, they may interact on a friendly level. Such positive interactions will encourage students to learn and succeed.

Additionally, The first six weeks of school will involve health education.  Why?  When we are allowed to be back at school, we want to be fully engaged in P.E. as much as possible.  Every year by state education law, students are required to have at least 6 weeks of health.  It is each grades (6,7,&8) preference to begin health so that when we are allowed to return, hopefully, we can return to the gym!  Health as this pandemic has shown the world, IS SUPER IMPORTANT!  I will probably be incorporating daily movement in my instruction.

Got a question?  Don't be afraid to ask!  It will benefit you and other students that did not have the gumption to inquire.

For daily work, you need to go to our Google Classroom.

Here are the codes for each hour.

Welcome to my final year of teaching.  I am Mr. Skoog.  I am 57 years old and am in my final year of instruction as is my wife, Mrs. Skoog, who is an interventionist for reading at Oakland School.  Mrs. Skoog and I met as geography (social studies) teachers in Grayslake Middle School District 46 and worked there for roughly 10 years.

I started working in Antioch in 1998 as the Assistant Principal of AUGS (for 2 years) and was Principal of AUGS until 2006.  I have enjoyed teaching and coaching throughout my career.  I coached football at Carmel High School, Head Wrestling at Grayslake High School, I have coached soccer, softball, track and field, wrestling, basketball and volleyball at AUGS!  I went to the University of Illinois (B.A. Kinesiology) on a wrestling scholarship https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Otw4cpWgIVU

and completed my Master's degree at Roovevelt University and my Doctoral program via Bethel University (St. Paul, MN).

My passions are my family (wife, Sherri, son Gunnar 25 whom works at AUGS, daughter Hannah 23 whom is a nurse in Chicago and I love sports and extra-curricular activities! I coach at ACHS for Girls High School Volleyball, coach AUGS 6th grade boys basketball, coach AUGS 8th grade boys volleyball, sponsor geography bee and student council at AUGS. I love fishing, golf, boating/wave-running, skiing, ultimate frisbee and frisbee golf, softball, and my favorite thing is hiking with my wife for exercise.  Outside of school I play guitar and enjoy music from the 70's and 80's.

When I retire on June 1,2021, I will move to my home in Nokomis, Fl and play a lot of Jimmy Buffet music.

I have amazing treasured memories of AUGS and I love this community very much.  I know this is a difficult era of learning but together "WE CAN and WE WILL!"
