Screening Information
District 34 has an Early Childhood Assessment Team (ECAT) to provide screenings for age eligible children that live within district boundaries. This screening process determines eligibility for pre-kindergarten classroom placement and/or other District 34 services.
There are 2 types of screenings:
1. Preschool for All Screening- These screenings occur on scheduled days throughout the year. At this type of screening, the ECAT team uses the DIAL-4 assessment tool, a parent interview is completed, and a hearing & vision screening is completed. This screening is recommended for students age 3-5 years, who are interested in eligibility/placement in one of our state grant funded preschool for all classrooms. Special education concerns can also be identified at this type of screening.
2. Special Education Screening- These screenings occur on an as needed basis. At this type of screening, the ECAT team uses the DIAL-4 assessment tool in conjunction with alternative screening measures (as needed.) A hearing and vision screening is not initially assessed and there is no parent interview. This screening is recommended for students age 2 years 10 months- 5 years who are only concerned with special education needs. State grant funded preschool for all classroom eligibility/placement is not determined.
