Dear First Grade Families,
Welcome to first grade! I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our classroom and to tell you a little bit about myself.
I am very excited to be teaching first grade at Hillcrest! This will be my 18th year of teaching. Over the past 17 years I have taught grades 1st to 5th (1st being my absolute FAVORITE)! I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a Minor in Art from Augustana College in 2003 and a Masters Degree in Teaching and Leadership from Saint Xavier University in 2008. I received my second Master's Degree in Educational Technology from Concordia University in 2011.
I grew up in Park Ridge, IL but currently live in Pleasant Prairie, WI with my husband Justin, our 6 year old daughter Ella, our 3 year old son Evan, and our dog Bailey. I played the clarinet throughout grade school, high school, and college and was also involved in a variety of vocal ensembles. I still have a great love of music and enjoy singing whenever I have an opportunity. I minored in art in college and enjoy adding artistic creativity to my everyday teaching.
I believe that open communication between a child’s home and school is very important for a student’s success. Please feel free to contact me any time you have a question or concern. The quickest way to reach me is to send a message through SeeSaw. You can also email me at kdenio@antioch34.com. I can also be contacted by phone at 847-838-8037. Please note that the phone in our classroom will not ring during school hours. Please leave a detailed voicemail and I will return your call.
Together, we can help your child have a successful year in first grade. I look forward to a great year!
Sincerely,
Mrs. DeNio
