About the Teacher

  • My name is Taryn Brussaly. I am 32 years old. I grew up in Antioch and went through district 34! This is my 11th year teaching. I taught kindergarten for 8 years and taught K-1 STEM at Hillcrest for 2 years.

I love working with children. They just make me happy. I graduated from Trinity International University in 2010 with a bachelors degree in Elementary Education and a minor in psychology. I also have a masters degree in educational technology.

In 2011 I married my husband, Jared. We have a house in Wisconsin. We have two daughters- Joy, who is 4, and Everest, who is 2. We love them to pieces. Jared and I both enjoy being active, doing things as a family, riding our bikes, going for walks, searching for "happy rocks", and swimming with the girls.

Some of my favorite things are: watching my girls explore and discover new things, being with my family, Disney movies (especially Pixar), taking naps, taking pictures, going to painting classes,  funfetti cake, brownies, flip-flops, bon-fires, s'mores, reading on my Kindle, going to church, playing board games, gardening, and doing random things with friends. I also have an obsession with buying things for my classroom. Brainstorm, TeachersPayTeachers, and Amazon are some of my FAVORITE places to shop. :-)

    My favorite color is purple.

    My favorite drink is coffee!

My favorite candy is peanut butter M&M's.

Some of my favorite books to read are the Hunger Games & Divergent series.

My favorite restaurant is Wildfire or Texas Roadhouse.

    My favorite season is spring.

I love getting handmade or personalized things from my students. I keep them forever.

I pretty much love ALL children books but some of my favorites are the Elephant and Piggie books by Mo Willems, Duck & Goose books by Tad Hills and books featuring Max the duck by Jackie Urbanovic.

My favorite part about my job is seeing a student's excitement the first time they do something new. I love seeing them gain confidence in their abilities throughout the year. Plus, I love all of the crazy funny things the kids say! Like.... how the chicken we eat has seeds, or a girl's favorite food is cottage cheese! I also really like how I get to build relationships with each student and their families as we start this academic journey toether!

I love my job because the kids make me smile and no day is ever the same!
