Decoding Strategies

  • What is Decoding?

Decoding is simply the process of seeing written words on a page and being able to say them out loud.

In kindergarten, we will mostly use the first 4 strategies listed below; Eagle Eye, Lips the Fish, Stretchy the Snake, and Chunky Monkey. However, students who are already in the transitional or fluent reader stage, will also use the last 3 strategies.
