    A little bit about
    Mrs. Buchholtz

Hi, I'm Sue Buchholtz a Fifth Grade Teacher here at Oakland.  This is my 20th year of teaching.   I had been one of the Reading  Resource teachers here for 7 years.   My undergraduate degree was in Marketing from University of Illinois Chicago.  I have my Masters in Teaching from Dominican University.  Lake Villa has been my home for the past 41 years.  I have 3 children and 3 step children which have kept us busy over the years. We have 2 grown dogs and a 12 week old American Bully puppy that is keeping us really busy right now. I have helped with my share of fifth grade homework.  I love to travel, bowl, golf and play scrabble in my free time.

Feel free to e-mail me with any questions or concerns at sbuchholtz@antioch34.com or call me at 847-838-8643.

    Common Core

As you may know, Illinois is among the more than 40 states that have adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).  The CCSS were developed in collaboration with teachers, school administrators, and mathematics and education experts from across the nation.  These standards will serve as important benchmarks to ensure that all students are receiving high quality education and are well prepared for success in post-secondary education and the workforce. Students will be assessed on a regular basis throughout their school career to monitor their progress towards meeting these benchmarks.

    Homework:  Math

The general policy in fifth grade is to assign homework once students have demonstrated understanding of the concept that is being taught in class. Students should be able to complete the homework within a reasonable amount of time on their own.

Students in fifth grade are expected to have mastered their basic math facts (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division). Please make sure your child is practicing these facts on a frequent basis.
