Hopefully cooler weather is ahead. Happy birthday to Andrew, who turned 8 this week - the ice-cold Cuties made a delicious, healthy, cool birthday treat on a very hot day! Students have started taking several benchmark tests to help us determine how best to meet their needs for this school year. The MAP (Measures of Academic Progress, also known as the NWEA) started on Thursday, and will continue over the next few weeks during our computer lab time. This test gives us an idea of how they are progressing in both reading and math. The children also took the AimsWeb Reading Fluency Benchmark this week. Over the next few weeks, each child will be tested individually by his/her guided reading group teacher to determine their Fontas & Pinell reading level for the next reading group session. August 26, 2011: We have made it through our first week of school! We have been having fun learning about new classmates and teachers here at Oakland School. We have had all of our specials at least once, and are learning our way around the building. It looks like it is going to be a great year! Happy Birthday to Sean, who turns 8 today! Today the children were introduced to a website called Tumblebooks. Our PTO has generously purchased a site license for our school, and this includes use at home by students and their families. To find Tumblebooks, follow these steps: 1) log on to District 34's home page (www.antioch34.com) 2) on the schools tab, choose Oakland 3) on the menu to the left, choose Oakland Library 4) on the left, choose Library Links 5) Click on Tumblebooks!
