Please read the entries to the left to learn more about my trip to Alaska to experience the Iditarod in March 2010! I will continue to be an Iditarod fan for many years to come. For my reading intervention students, I will again have an "Iditaread Challenge" for the 2011-2012 school year. This challenge correlates with Accelerated Reader. In my room is a map of Alaska with the northern route of the Iditarod trail. This map will have all the checkpoints along the trail. Students will be given a husky at the beginning of the year and all students will begin in Anchorage. When a student reads a book in his/her range and passes the quiz, he/she will be able to move his/her husky to the next checkpoint! The goal, just like the mushers, is to reach Nome. Once at Nome, students will receive a husky! My previous students seemed to enjoy this challenge and looked forward to naming their husky. I hope this enthusiasm will continue this school year as well!

Good Luck!
